Parent Partnership Special Education Needs in Newcastle
Parent Partnership provides.....
- information, support and advice
- volunteers to support parents
- someone to listen to your concerns
...for parents/carers of children and young people with
special education needs.
There are five core functions of Parent Partnership Services
as defined by the DfES:
- working with individual parents/families
- information and publicity
- training and support
- networking and collaboration
- helping to inform and influence local policy and practice
The Parent Partnership Service recruits and trains volunteers
who are available to support parents.
These volunteers are called Independent Parental Supporters.
The Independent Parental Supporter
An independent Parental Supporter is there to:
- Help you get information or make contact with other
people who can help you
- Listen to your concerns and help you express your
views
- Help you understand what is happening during any assessment
of your child's needs
- Help you fill in forms, write letters or make phone
calls
- Help you prepare for meetings or attend meetings with
you
- Come with you on visits to schools
- Offer general support to do with education
